Birds

Birds are warm-blooded vertebrates belonging to the class Aves, characterized by feathers, beaks, and typically the ability to fly. They are distinguished from other animals by their lightweight skeletons, which often include hollow bones, and their reproductive system, which usually involves laying eggs with hard shells. Birds possess a unique respiratory system that enhances their oxygen intake, supporting high metabolic rates necessary for flight. Most species are equipped with keen eyesight and are capable of complex behaviors, including vocalizations and social interactions. Birds inhabit various ecosystems across the globe, from forests and deserts to urban areas and polar regions. They play crucial roles in many ecological processes, such as pollination, seed dispersal, and pest control. There are approximately 10,000 known species of birds, ranging widely in size, color, and behavior, from small hummingbirds to large ostriches.
